Leaf Necklace, made from Bead Mix #2

Bead Mix #2,  I had said in post Bead Mix #1, my mind needs to ponder ideas for awhile, well that is an understatement...It has been over a year since my last post, I did however, finish the piece, a fall inspired necklace has finally emerged from that bowl of beads. I really like the idea of filling the bowl and creating a new piece of jewelry. I believe this process will keep me motivated and I do plan to create and post a piece a day...This necklace is attributed to the fall weather and of course the bowl of beads, which are all glass except for 10 czech crystal beads and 12 lead-free pewter flower beads, clasp is Sterling silver. This necklace is 20 inches in length, the leaf dangle is 6 inches long by 1 inch in width.
Thanks for viewing, Till next time...

Silver beads are lead free pewter, Czech pendant dangle beads are made from hand blown glass and wrapped with brass wire and other beads used are seed beads, both have a nice purple iridescence. Gold color aspects of this piece are projective, strengthens the conscious mind, and helps communication. Green is receptive and good for grounding and balancing.Slight purple iridescence promotes meditation, healing and peace.

Bead Mix #1

This is a photo I took of a mix of beads put together, to create my next piece, what that may be, I am not yet sure. I seem to take a while to finish projects , I need to ponder ideas through my head and process them. I thought it would be a good idea to put a before and after photo of the items I create. I picked these colors as they seemed to warm to me, since fall is here and winter on the way, thoughts of autumn and Thanksgiving seem to be on my mind. I will post the after photo as soon as I am done with this piece. Till next time…

Turquoise Bracelet

I have been really fond of turquoise lately and I found some loose turquoise beads that had been long forgotten, so I decided to create a bracelet. This turquoise bracelet is accompanied by Sterling Silver round spacer beads and also features a Sterling Silver hook and eye clasp. The turquoise beads are approximately 1 inch long and 1/2 inches wide, each stone has a very different brown/black matrix throughout and has more of a rough than smooth finish. Turquoise is lucky and is carried around to attract good fortune. Stones energy promotes protection, courage, money, love and luck. Both materials used have a receptive energy and when given as a gift, it is said to; bestow wealth and happiness upon receiver.

Labradorite Bracelet

The bracelet created features Labradorite and Sterling Silver. The bracelet is a little longer than your typical 7.5 bracelets, this bracelet measures 9 inches long and beads are approximately 1/2 inch thick. Clasp used is Sterling Silver and features two different sized leaves that are hook and eye style, the clasp measures 2 inches long. The bracelet feels very cool to the touch, and when worn, Labradorite beads have a high light refraction when twisted around in the light.

"Labradorite is a mineral that occurs in metamorphic or igneous rocks. Labradorite is a variety of the mineral feldspar; other feldspar stones include sunstone and moonstone. According to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History, "The minerals in the feldspar family make up more than half of the Earth's rocky crust." Spectrolite is the most sought after type of labradorite and comes from Finland. Labradorite is considered a minor gemstone since it is readily available and hard to use. Although the color of the stone is silver gray, the stone displays an array of colors according to the angle of light refraction. Labradorite exhibits red, orange, blue, green, violet, and yellow when the stone is turned in light. The iridescence comes from light diffracting off closely spaced calcium and sodium layers of the crystal and is commonly referred to as "labradorescence" or "schiller." Labradorite has a very metallic look with a dark to light smoky gray background. Its hardness on the Mohs scale is 6 to 6.5.
Labradorite is naturally found in Canada, where the stones’ name originated from, being found in the Labrador Penisula in 1770. Labradorite has also been found in other places such as Madagascar, Finland (where the trade name is called spectrolite), Russia, Australia, Mexico, Norway, and United States.
Labradorite’s attributes are the ability to dispel negativity and provide clarity of thought. It is a grounding stone and focusing on a piece of labradorite can help you enter and maintain a meditative state. Labradorite represents the "Temple of Stars”, bringing the wisdom of worlds, universes, and planetary beings to the wearer."

Time

Time sure flies, when you are having fun, or so they say, but fun this has not been. It has been a lot more work then I originally thought, I had big plans for this blog and time has sure slipped away, so now back to implementing my original idea, a jewlery blog. I have created a list of items that must be accomplished in order to get my jewelry blog running at optimal pace and to get the best out of my marketing tool, I am trying to create. Here is a list of items I have so far accomplished; Workspace has been organized and is now ready to create new jewelry pieces, blog site is created and software understood (the company decided to upgrade software as soon as I learned the old software, so this took a lot more time then I planned for.), Etsy account created and ready for product listings. Now, I am ready to blog more enthusiastically, as I am planning to keep my blog as advertisment for my original jewelry that I will be creating, I am now down to only a few more items to check off from my to do list. The last few things that need to be accomplished are as follows; open a checking account for Earthly Aura’s, which is needed to open the paypal account, which is needed for any sales to happen through my etsy account, get all jewelry photographed and placed on etsy account and finally we will be ready to open. At that time, I will then send out mass emails to inform my audience of Earthly Aura’s new jewelry blog and sales outlet. If you are interested in receiving emails please sign-up as a member of my blog (which is on the right side under inspiring quotes).
Till next time...

Caterpillar

Since I am on the subject of our trip to the falls, I came across a pink caterpillar during our walks through the trails. Of course, once more I had to stop and take a picture of the flora and fauna in the area we were exploring.  The pink caterpillar was rather immense compared to other caterpillars I have seen, about two and a half inches long and three eighths of an inch wide. I almost stepped on it but, in the midst of the grey stones the caterpillars vibrant pink color attracted my attention. Like the mushrooms in a previous post, if you do not pay close attention to the little things in life, you just might pass them by.  After some research and looking through many pictures of different caterpillars, I finally found the pink caterpillar, a Prominent Moth in the genus Heterocampa is a genus of moths of the Notodontidae family.

This caterpillar is normally green and changes color just prior to pupation. How exciting I thought, when I photographed this caterpillar it was looking for a spot to start its 'pupal stage. I also wondered what it was going to eventually look like, so I included a picture of the moth after it finished pupating, not as colorful as the pupal stage. While searching for information I thought it may have been a brightly colored butterfly and the pink caterpillar actually turned out to be an interesting looking brown moth.
 Till next time...

Bushkill Waterfalls

Since I mentioned the waterfalls of Bushkill Falls, Pennsylvania in my last post, I decided I must share some picks of the photos I took during our vacation. These waterfalls were honestly astonishing as you can see from the photos. Bushkill Falls is a privately owned park in the Pocono Mountains and is now one of my favorite places, next to Big Sur, California, Alaska, and Old Man's Cave, Ohio, which I have visited all twice and cannot wait to go back. Bushkill Falls is known as the Niagara of Pennsylvania and contains eight waterfalls and the highest falls there are 100 feet. The owners built sturdy wood steps and decking, which you can see in two of the photos above,  these decks made it possible to get up close and walk over the falls while still being safe. The whole place made me feel like I was in the jungle, it was awe-inspiring  and worth walking all the stairs and trails. If anyone is looking for a place to vacation I would highly recommend the Bushkill Area or Old mans Cave in Ohio. Below is a link to their websites for more information.

Mushrooms

This photo was taken at the Bushkill Falls, Pennsylvania where we went on a family vacation this summer. The drive was very long, about 12 hours with all the stopping, but well worth it when we finally arrived. We spent three days visting different waterfalls throughout the Bushkill area. While I was hiking throught the trails, I came across these mushrooms which were about an inch in length, so I took a close-up of them and this is the photo I ended up with. To think if I was not paying attention I could have stepped on them and smushed the mushrooms right into the ground and never have gotten this photo. This is why I always emphasize the saying "Don't hurry, Don't worry and Don't forget to smell the flowers." If you pay attention you would not believe the things you can see in this world. Till next time...

Iris

The name Iris comes from the greek word meaning "rainbow", and it seems to fit perfectly seeing how many different colors are available. There are approxiamately 200 species, some grow from bulbs and some from rhizomes. This particular type is Tall Bearded Iris, and does grow from a rhizome. I dug up, split and replanted rhizomes last fall and got beautiful flowers this summer, this being one of them. The big photo is my absolute favorite, out of any photo I have ever taken, I love to capture the close-ups of the inside of flowers and think they tend to get overlooked to frequently. Take a close look deep inside a flower next time you see one and see what you find, watch out though, you might run into a bug of some sort having it's lunch. I have a few photos of insects which I will post at a later time, I find them amazing as well. Till next time...

Turquoise Necklace

A turquoise necklace, made about a year ago, unfortunely I still haven't found the time to create two pieces aweek, so i'm cheating alittle. Turquoise is a receptive stone, the powers of this stone are protection and healing. Wear turquoise to attract new friends, to be joyous, in a good mood and increase beauty. Also this stone attracts good fortune. This necklace contains 19 stones, each stone is approxiamately 1 inch in length and contains a mix of blue/ green color with black matix veins. The total length of the necklace is 20 inches and is a choker style. Feels very smooth and fits nicely when worn.

Morning Glories

These flowers are one of my favorites, they are called Morning Glories, and as the name suggests, they come out to bloom only in the morning and close up in the evening, due to heat of the sun, their blooms last only one to two days. However, they are constantly growing and producing more flowers, they are a vine plant and are always looking for a place to grab and swirl around in an upward motion. Morning Glories are very drought resistant and do not require much fuss. Great flower to just plant the seeds and let them grow. I also harvest the seeds in the fall, so I can replant in the spring. I took this picture because I think the color of  middle of the flower, is just so vibrant. I started to paint a picture of this exact photo, so when it is finished I shall post a picture and see what you think.

Blog Beginning

Hello there, My name is Jennifer Christine Lutch and this is my first blog and honestly I do not even know where to begin, so I will start by explaining my idea for this blog site. Earthly Auras is the name of a business I plan to start after graduation, which is this May 2012. When I signed up for blogger.com. they automatically linked my blog site to my etsy account and that is where I got my idea to blog about my work. I am a jewlery designer as well as a photographer, so I decided to design or photograph two items a week, blog about them and then list them to my etsy account. Also, on the top of the page are my fish, as you check my blog, please feed my fish, just click anywhere in the water and the food will appear and the fish will eat.....till next time...
